Xinhai Completes Three Controlled Water Tower Demolitions in Three Days

From August 20 to 22, Xinhai Mining successfully completed three controlled demolition projects in Yantai, Shandong Province, China, safely bringing down three aging water towers that had been in service for around 40 years.

Completed over three consecutive days, the projects presented highly restricted site conditions. Residential buildings, power infrastructure, underground utilities and communications towers were located close to the demolition areas. Despite these challenges, all three structures were brought down in their designated directions, with no impact on nearby homes, power facilities or communications infrastructure.

★ Three Days, Three Complex Sites

On August 20, Xinhai demolished a water tower approximately 14 metres high. A telecommunications tower was located around 24 metres away, while power facilities and underground pipelines were approximately 5 metres from the structure.

The second demolition, completed on August 21, involved a 15.8-metre-high tower in even tighter conditions. Power transmission lines were approximately 12 metres away, a communications tower stood around 25 metres away, and a newly constructed residential building was located just 1 metre from the tower.

On August 22, the team completed the third operation, demolishing an approximately 18-metre-high water tower. The site was located near a 220 kV high-voltage transmission line, additional power infrastructure and nearby residential properties.

Before each operation, Xinhai's blasting team carried out detailed site surveys and developed tailored demolition plans. The collapse direction, initiation system and protective measures were carefully assessed to control flyrock, vibration and airblast throughout each operation.
