This silver mine is located on the Altas mountains in the mid of Morocco which is the second biggest silver mine in Morocco after Imiter and the 14th biggest silver mine in the world. In 2012, M mining company successfully purchased this silver mine, and built a 300t/d silver cyanidation plant to recover silver.
With the increase of mining depth, M mining company found that the original 300t/d cyanidation plant couldn't meet the need of present dressing demand. The dressing equipment was lack of repairment for years and the technology flow is unreasonable which led an unreachable predicted capacity. The recovery rate of silver was decreased over the years.
Therefore M mining company decided to rebuild and reform the silver dressing plant. Ore characteristic: the metallic minerals were natural silver, pyrite, limonite and so on. The gangue minerals were quartz, feldspar, clay mineral and so on. Silver was the recyclable element.
Processing capacity: 500tpd.
Technology process: Two and a half stage close-circuit crushing – two-stage grinding – flotation (a roughing, three scavenging and two cleaning) – two-stage dewatering process.
Main equipment: jaw crusher, cone crusher, circular vibrating screen, wet grid ball mill, wet overflow ball mill, high dam single spiral classifier, hydrocyclone, jig, shaking table, flotation cell, high-efficiency thickener, filter press and so on.
During the crushing stage, Xinhai used two and a half stage close-circuit crushing process. Coarse crushing and middle crushing chose jaw crusher. Fine crushing chose cone crusher. Screen stage chose circular vibrating screen. The crushing product transported to the original fine ore bin through belt conveyor and then truck loaded to the new plant.
Grinding stage Xinhai used two-stage closed-circuit grinding process. One stage grinding chose wet grid ball mill. The ore discharges were gravity separated by the jig. The concentrations were finely separated by shaking table. The gravity tailings were classified by high dam single spiral classifier. The second stage grinding chose wet overflow ball mill. The second stage classification chose cyclone unit. The one-stage grind fineness is 55% to 60% -200 mesh. The second-stage grind fineness is 85% to 90% -200 mesh.
Flotation operation adopted a roughing, three scavenging, two concentration process. The two-stage mechanical dehydration process was adopted in the concentrate dehydration operation, and the thickener was used for first stage dehydration operation and the filter press was used for the second stage dehydration. Finally, the cake contained about 20% water. The tailings were directly discharged to the original tailings pond.
After the concentrate was sent to the mixing system of the original plant. The mixing system was newly built on the basis of the original plant, which adopted clamshell feeding method. Through the high-concentration agitating tank for slurry mixing, the slurry was sent to the existing grinding and classifying system. After concentrated by the thickener, the cyclone overflow was sent to the existing leaching system for leaching over 60 hours. After five-stage washing operation, the pregnant solution was delivered to the zinc powder replacement device for smelting, and the tailings were pumped to the tailings pond.
1. Rational plant layout, suited to local conditions
● There are lots of bare rock in the plant site, and the price of concrete in Morocco was expensive. Therefore, Xinhai Ming adopted steel structure plant design, which not only saved the cost of infrastructure investment, but also shortened the period of civil construction.
● On the basis of the former cyanide plant, Xinhai Mining appropriately added some new equipment and processes, made the most of the existing plant, equipment and foundation. Through the scientific and reasonable plant design, Xinhai Mining ensured that the whole plant process flows smooth, the new and old equipment runs normally, and the expected recovery rate was achieved.
2. Advanced process and reliable equipment
● Xinhai Mining adopted crusher and vibrating screen to form two semi-closed circuit crushing process, which obviously reduced the particle size of crushed ore and reduced the load of grinding mill;
● In the classifying operation, Xinhai Mining especially increased the sand return automatic lifting device, which greatly saved the power;
● In the flotation operation, Xinhai Mining configured a few types of flotation machine as a flotation unit, and set the reasonable reagent system;
● The thickener, leaching workshop, purification workshop, replacement workshop and dehydration workshop was upgraded on the original basis of the original pant. Besides, the original equipment was serviced and those damaged parts were replaced totally, which fully ensured the stable operation of the later production.
3. Low investment cost, high beneficiation index
● With the mineral processing EPC+M+O service, the production cost of the project was reduced by 15%, which remained about 5% less than the expected investment cost;
● After the grinding, gravity separation and flotation operation, the recovery rate of silver was up to 83.95%.
