With the development of mining amount, chrome is to be exhausted as a non-renewable resource. The process used for the extraction of chromium ore is required to increase the recovery rate of chromium.
Generally, the common process used for the extraction of chromium ore mainly includes single gravity separation, single magnetic separation, or gravity separation-magnetic separation combined process. Among them, the extraction of chromium ore by gravity separation is to recover chrome minerals according to the gravity differences between chrome and gangue minerals. The extraction of chromium ore by magnetic separation is to recover chrome concentrates according to the magnetic differences between chrome and gangue minerals.

Single gravity separation includes two steps, full-grain gravity separation and classifying gravity separation. It uses spiral helix chute and shaking table as the main equipment to the extraction of chromium ore (spiral helix chute is roughing equipment, and shaking table is concentrating equipment). Shaking table has a better effect on concentrating.
This chrome mining process is rather simple no matter with shaking table or spiral helix chute. One-stage grinding is accepted, which reduces production costs and equipment investment. However, the recovery rate of this chrome mining process is not ideal.
Weak magnetic–strong magnetic–weak magnetic separation concentrates grinding and shaking table gravity separation–strong magnetic separation concentrates shaking table gravity separation combined process.
This chrome mining process is magnetic separation -gravity separation combined process. Weak magnetic separation can hardly be separated with chrome minerals in coarse grains, which leads to an unideal gravity separation index. In order to recover high-grade chrome concentrates, weak magnetic concentrates should be ground.
Compared with the extraction of chromium ore by single shaking table separation, weak magnetic concentrates need ground. The equipment investment and production costs are increased, while the grade of chrome concentrates and recovery rate is better.

In order to increase the grade of concentrates, magnetic separation concentrates should be reprocessed before gravity separation, Weak magnetic concentrates need regrinding before gravity separation. Strong magnetic concentrates enter gravity separator after classifying. This technology used for the extraction of chromium ore is a reasonable processing technology with a higher recovery rate. It can reach a better processing index and is more reasonable.
According to chromium ore characteristics and specific processing flow, the above three processes used for the extraction of chromium ore can reach each respective processing index. However, compared with the other two chrome mining processes, weak magnetic–strong magnetic–weak magnetic separation concentrates grinding and shaking table gravity separation–strong magnetic separation concentrates classifying–shaking table gravity separation process is more reasonable and can get the better processing index.
